Hamburger Mushroom Bake

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)


  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Eliminate any surplus fat.
  3. Add Onion and Garlic: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Once the onion is tender, cook it for a further two to three minutes.
  4. Add Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and continue cooking for about 5 minutes, until they are tender.
  5. Combine Soup and Sour Cream: In a mixing bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup and sour cream until well blended.
  6. Season: Season the mixture with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning according to your preference.
  7. Layering: Spread half of the cooked rice evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the ground beef and mushroom mixture.
  8. Sauce Layer: Spread half of the soup and sour cream mixture over the beef and mushrooms. Repeat the layers with the remaining rice, beef, mushroom mixture, and sauce.
  9. Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  10. Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  11. Uncover and Bake: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
