Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups cooked rice
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned. Eliminate any surplus fat.
- Add Onion and Garlic: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Once the onion is tender, cook it for a further two to three minutes.
- Add Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and continue cooking for about 5 minutes, until they are tender.
- Combine Soup and Sour Cream: In a mixing bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup and sour cream until well blended.
- Season: Season the mixture with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning according to your preference.
- Layering: Spread half of the cooked rice evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the ground beef and mushroom mixture.
- Sauce Layer: Spread half of the soup and sour cream mixture over the beef and mushrooms. Repeat the layers with the remaining rice, beef, mushroom mixture, and sauce.
- Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and Bake: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
